What is the High School and Beyond Plan?

The High School and Beyond Plan helps students prepare for life after high school. At Mary M. Knight, students complete this through their Career/College Portfolio, which starts in 7th/8th grade and continues until graduation.

Three Main Parts of Your Student's Portfolio

1. Academic Learning

  • Track progress toward graduation credits

  • Set SMART goals for academic success

  • Complete regular credit checks with advisors

  • Document academic achievements

2. Career Planning

  • Take career interest assessments through YouScience

  • Research careers and education paths

  • Complete job shadows to explore careers

  • Create a resume or activity log

  • Plan high school courses that match career goals

3. Citizenship Leadership

  • Complete 10 volunteer hours each year (grades 9-12)

  • Document community service experiences

  • Develop leadership skills

  • Participate in school activities

Key Requirements Each Year

Freshman & Sophomore Years

  • Start career exploration using YouScience

  • Complete career interest assessments

  • Begin volunteer hours (10 per year)

  • Create initial course plan

  • Set academic goals

Junior Year

  • Update course plans based on career interests

  • Complete job shadows

  • Research colleges and training programs

  • Continue volunteer hours

  • Start building resume

Senior Year

  • Finalize portfolio

  • Present to school and community panel

  • Complete college/training applications

  • Document post-high school plans

  • Finish volunteer hours

  • All students must complete this to graduate
