Signs

Dear Mary M. Knight Community,

We're thrilled to share an exciting project that connects our present students with our rich educational history! Our talented Construction Class students have been hard at work creating beautiful, handcrafted signs that will mark the locations of former school sites throughout our area as part of our 100-year celebration.

This meaningful project showcases the incredible skills and dedication of our students. The wooden slabs were generously donated by Beeville Mill, and our Construction Class has transformed them into works of art that honor our educational heritage. Each sign features expert craftsmanship with the school name and dates of operation beautifully displayed.

Not to be outdone, our Entrepreneurship Class joined the effort by creating the stylish lettering for each sign, demonstrating how collaboration between different classes can produce remarkable results.

On Friday, our students proudly delivered these finished signs to the Matlock Historical Society, who will place them at historical school locations including:

  • Beeville School (1912-1937)

  • Matlock School (1898-1907)

  • Grove Wayside School (1906-1924)

  • Carstairs Rediske School (1891-1924)

  • Deckerville School (1894 - 1924)

We're incredibly proud of how our students have connected with our community's past while developing practical skills for their futures. This project embodies the spirit of collaboration, craftsmanship, and community connection that makes Mary M. Knight so special.

A special thank you to the Matlock Historical Society members who partnered with us on this meaningful project and to Beeville Mill for their generous donation of materials.

As we celebrate 100 years of educational excellence at Mary M. Knight, projects like this remind us of the enduring importance of education in our community and the bright future our students are building.

Go Owls!
