Mary M. Knight OWLS Celebrate Week of March 24-28 GRIT Award Winners
At Mary M. Knight School, we continue to recognize students who demonstrate GRIT - Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity. Our weekly awards celebrate students from across all grade levels who face challenges with determination and embody our motto of "Nurturing Resilience, Inspiring Excellence."
Elementary GRIT Champions
In Kindergarten, two students showed remarkable perseverance this week. Kynslee Lingnau has been demonstrating GRIT by working hard to complete her i-Ready minutes, even when the content is challenging. Her determination to keep trying shows she's capable of great learning! Similarly, Kaison Gonzales has been getting his work done and giving his best effort even when tired or not feeling well. Kaison's persistence proves he's capable of doing awesome things in his learning journey.
Our 2nd grade standout, Andrew Ushman, continues to impress with his determination to succeed. Andrew completes all assignments, asks questions when needed, and maintains focus throughout each school day. His hard work has kept him at grade level, and he's well on his way to being prepared for 3rd grade next year!
The 3rd grade team is proud to recognize Dagger Fisher, who joined the class and immediately adapted to the new learning environment. Even when facing unfamiliar material, Dagger jumped right in and started learning on the fly, making a smooth transition and becoming an integral part of the classroom community.
In 5th grade, Rabbit Ninemire demonstrates exceptional initiative with her daily journals. She brings in each day's journal first thing in the morning and then starts working ahead on the next day's entry—showing remarkable organization and dedication to her writing.
Middle and High School Excellence
Our 11th grader Chase Tupper showed true perseverance with his wall framing project. Despite occasional frustration, Chase never gave up, willingly made adjustments throughout the process, and prevailed in the end. He also mastered cutting plywood straight with a circular saw—developing valuable skills through his determination.
PreK and Transportation Recognition
Our youngest GRIT award recipient, PreK student Ian Weaver, has grown significantly in his ability to organize and be responsible for his belongings. With his father deployed since October 2024, Ian's ability to stay engaged and upbeat demonstrates remarkable resilience.
We're also proud to recognize students showing GRIT outside the classroom. Matthew Hett and Ava Caneda-Armenteros received special recognition from our bus drivers for exemplifying positive bus behavior and helping others understand what it takes to be a positive rider.
A special shout-out goes to Renna Coleman, who was recognized by a peer for her consistent hard work in class every day—showing that GRIT doesn't go unnoticed, even by classmates!
Building a Community of Resilience
These students embody what it means to be Mary M. Knight OWLS—embracing challenges, demonstrating resilience, applying intensity to their work, and showing tenacity when facing difficulties.
Congratulations to all our GRIT award winners! Your dedication to growth and positive contributions make our school community stronger every day.
