We are so proud to share that our very own Zoie Anderson has officially sworn in with the Army National Guard!

This July, Zoie will travel to Fort Benning, Georgia to attend basic training, where she’ll begin learning the skills for her MOS – Cavalry Scout. She’s especially excited to take on hands-on training and some high-energy adventures along the way! 💪

We couldn’t be happier for Zoie and her family as she takes this incredible next step. Congratulations, Zoie — your MMK family is so proud of you! 💚🤍 #MMK #ProudOfOurStudents #FutureSoldier

🎭 Rhyme Without Reason Spirit Week Fun! 🦉

What an incredible day at Mary M. Knight! Today our students and staff brought their creativity and school spirit to life for Rhyme Without Reason Day. The hallways were filled with laughter and excitement as our Knight community showed up in the most imaginative costume pairings!

We're so proud of the teamwork, creativity, and enthusiasm our students displayed as they partnered up to create rhyming costume combinations. Can you guess who some of our pairs are dressed as? We'll give you one hint to start: Mr. Stoney and Ms. Bell teamed up for an unforgettable combo – Mr. Stoney came as a giant pink bunny while Ms. Bell channeled her inner hero as Link from The Legend of Zelda. That's right... Link and Pink! 🐰💖

From staff to students across all grades, today showcased the amazing community spirit that makes Mary M. Knight such a special place. The smiles, the giggles, and the clever costume ideas remind us why we love being Knights!

Today we’re celebrating Mr. Josh Stoney — an incredible leader who brings heart, humor, and positivity to our school every single day! 💚

Mr. Stoney grew up in Elma, and he’s truly a world traveler who brings that global perspective right back home to our students. When he’s not inspiring others at school, you can find him spending time with his three amazing kids; two sons and his loyal hound dog 🐾.

He’s also a big fan of orange creamsicle energy drinks 🍊⚡, loves to cook up delicious meals, and always finds a way to make people smile — whether it’s in the hallways, at games, or in the kitchen!

Thank you, Mr. Stoney, for your dedication, kindness, and the joy you bring to our school community. We’re so lucky to have you leading the way! 🙌🤍

Spirit Week - Day 1: Pajama Day! 🦉💙

Good evening, Mary M. Knight families and community!

What an amazing start to our Homecoming Spirit Week! Today, our OWLS showed up ready to soar in their coziest pajamas, and the hallways were filled with smiles, laughter, and incredible school spirit!
From fuzzy slippers to favorite onesies, our students embraced Pajama Day with enthusiasm and pride. It was wonderful to see everyone participating together – from our youngest learners to our upper grades – all united in celebrating what it means to be an OWL!

Days like today remind us of the special community we have here at Mary M. Knight. When our students feel connected and excited to be part of something bigger, it creates memories that last a lifetime and builds the foundation for a positive school culture.
We still have four more days of Spirit Week fun ahead of us, and if today was any indication, this is going to be an unforgettable Homecoming Week! Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to celebrate our OWLS pride.

Tomorrow is Pink Out Day! 💗 We encourage all students and staff to wear pink as we raise awareness for breast cancer. Let's show our support for all those affected by this disease and fill our school with a sea of pink OWLS pride!

OWLS Soar at Try-a-Trade 2025!

Career Exploration Takes Flight at Satsop Business Park

We're thrilled to share that our MMK OWLS recently attended the Try-a-Trade event on October 9th at Satsop Business Park in Elma! This incredible hands-on learning experience gave our high school students the opportunity to explore dozens of construction trades, connect with industry employers, and discover exciting career pathways right here in our region.

Why Career and Technical Education (CTE) Matters

At Mary M. Knight, we believe that every student deserves to graduate ready for their future—whether that means entering the workforce, pursuing an apprenticeship, or continuing their education at a two- or four-year college. Career and Technical Education programs like Try-a-Trade are essential because they:

✨ Provide real-world context for classroom learning
✨ Help students discover their passions and strengths through hands-on exploration
✨ Build connections with local employers and industry professionals
✨ Open doors to high-demand, well-paying careers in skilled trades
✨ Develop essential workplace skills like communication, problem-solving, and teamwork

Exploring 18 Skilled Trades

Our students had the chance to engage with professionals from a wide variety of trades, including:

Electricians and Plumbers
Ironworkers and Operating Engineers
Carpenters and Bricklayers
Sheet Metal Workers and HVAC Technicians
And so many more!

Students walked away with new perspectives on career opportunities they may have never considered before. As one participant from last year shared: "Having the opportunity to meet with all of the companies there, discuss their work, and see examples of some of it" made all the difference in understanding what these careers truly entail.
A Heartfelt Thank You to Mrs. Cole

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Mrs. Cole, one of our dedicated CTE teachers, who organized and accompanied our students to this valuable event. Mrs. Cole's commitment to preparing our OWLS for life after graduation is evident in everything she does, and we're so fortunate to have her leading our CTE programming!

So good you can almost taste it just by looking at it! 😋

Today we celebrated Taste Washington Day, where schools across the state serve up meals made with ingredients grown right here in Washington!

🍽️ Lunch: We dug into stuffed baked potatoes made with Eagle Eye potatoes from Mattawa — these spuds come from rich Columbia Basin soil, giving them that perfect fluffy-inside, crispy-outside bite! 🥔

🍏 Washington Apple Crunch: At noon, our students joined the statewide “crunch heard around Washington” as everyone bit into crisp, juicy apples from Washington Fruit in Yakima — a family-owned farm that’s been growing some of the state’s tastiest apples for over a century!

The cafeteria was full of laughter, crunches, and happy faces — and our students proudly showed off their Farm to School stickers! 💚 We’d say Taste WA Day was a smashing (or should we say crunching) success! 😄

This morning our students got to enjoy a Harvest Muffin! 🧁🥕
As you can see… some students loved it more than others! 😆

These muffins were made from scratch with zucchini from Imperial’s Garden in Wapato and carrots from Bolthouse Fresh in Prosser — both amazing Washington farms! 🌾

🥒 Imperial’s Garden is a family-owned farm known for its fresh, high-quality vegetables grown right in the Yakima Valley.
🥕 Bolthouse Fresh is one of Washington’s top carrot producers, bringing crisp, sweet flavor straight from Prosser.

We love serving up local ingredients that make our meals both farm fresh and kid approved! 💚
