Mary M. Knight Students Build Connections Through Teamwork! Our creative problem-solvers from Ms. Niles' class took on an exciting engineering challenge in our library recently! Students wondered if they could connect bendy straws together and stretch them all the way around the room - and through teamwork and perseverance, they made it happen! It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and collaboration as students positioned themselves strategically around the library, arms raised high, carefully holding their sections of the connected straws. This hands-on activity fostered teamwork, spatial awareness, and brought joy to our young learners. At Mary M. Knight, we celebrate these moments of curiosity and collective achievement. When our students ask "What if?" and work together to find answers, they're developing important skills that extend far beyond the classroom. Special thanks to Mrs. Henson for encouraging our students to think creatively and supporting this fun learning opportunity! #MMKPride #TeamworkMakesTheDreamWork #HandsOnLearning

Our young astronomers in Mrs. Jewett's class have been on an exciting journey through space! After learning about planets and our solar system in their classroom, students expanded their cosmic knowledge with a special art project in the library. Each student created their own unique canvas artwork featuring planets of their choice. It was truly inspiring to hear them thoughtfully explain which planets they selected and why. Some budding scientists even added black holes and stars to their cosmic creations! These beautiful space-themed canvases will be coming home with students this upcoming week. We encourage families to ask your children about their artwork and what they've learned about our fascinating solar system! At Mary M. Knight, we believe in connecting classroom learning with creative expression. Thank you to Mrs. Jewett and our library staff for providing this wonderful hands-on opportunity for our students to showcase their learning. #MMKPride #SpaceExplorers #StudentArtists

☘️✨ We kicked off St. Patrick’s Day a little early this morning with a pot of gold—and let’s just say, our elementary students were obsessed! 🌈💛 They thought they were getting chocolate pudding, but surprise! It was actually a rich, creamy cocoa yogurt topped with gold sprinkles, rainbow mini marshmallows, and crunchy graham crackers. A little festive fun and a healthy twist—now that’s a win! 🏆🍫 This delicious treat comes straight from Healthy School Recipes, where we find many of our scratch-made favorites. Want to try it at home? Grab the recipe here: Chocolate S’more Yogurt Dip And speaking of scratch-made, don’t forget about our Friday breakfasts! 🥞🍓 Every week, we whip up homemade goodness—from fluffy pancakes to warm, hearty options that fuel our students for the day ahead. Because great food starts from scratch! #ScratchMadeFridays #HealthyEating #PotOfGold #StPatricksDayMagic #SchoolMealsDoneRight 🍀✨

ESP Week
Mary M. Knight School recently welcomed special guests Margaret Garrett, Regional Farm to School Coordinator from our Educational Service District, and Pamela Bish, SNAP-Ed Program Coordinator from WSU Mason & Grays Harbor Counties Extension, who brought the Farm to School program directly to our students. The visitors prepared and served a nutritious beef stew featuring an impressive variety of locally sourced vegetables from farms right here in our community. Students enjoyed fresh carrots, green beans, onions, yellow potatoes, celery root, rutabaga, turnips, and aromatic herbs like basil, thyme, and parsley—all grown within miles of our school. Many of the ingredients came from neighboring farms including Colvin Ranch in Tenino, known for their sustainable grazing practices; Skokomish Valley Farms, which specializes in diverse vegetable production along the fertile Skokomish River; and Harp Acres Farm in McCleary, where a variety of seasonal produce is grown using environmentally friendly methods. Students had the opportunity to sample this hearty, flavorful dish during their lunch period, giving them firsthand experience with fresh, local ingredients prepared in a delicious way. "This program helps our students make the connection between local agriculture and healthy eating habits," said Principal Stoney. "It's one of many ways we're working to promote good nutrition while supporting our regional farming community." The school extends special thanks to our dedicated food service team, whose ongoing commitment to our students' nutrition and wellbeing made this event possible. Their daily efforts ensure our students receive nutritious meals, and their support of special programs like Farm to School enriches the educational experience at Mary M. Knight. The Farm to School initiative is part of a broader effort to introduce students to nutritious food options while teaching them about sustainable agriculture and the importance of supporting local food systems.
