🎵 Making Music at MMK: 6th Graders Master the Recorder! 🎵
There's something special happening in our elementary music program! Our talented 6th graders are embarking on an exciting musical journey through the Ninja Recorder Belt curriculum, and the progress they're making is truly noteworthy.
In Mrs. Chambless's music class, students are not just learning to play an instrument – they're developing fundamental music reading skills that will last a lifetime. Starting with the White Belt challenge (Hot Cross Buns), our young musicians are mastering the basics of breath control and finger placement for the notes G, A, and B. It's wonderful to see their confidence grow as they progress through each belt level!
The enthusiasm in the classroom is contagious as students advance through their belt levels. Many have already earned their White and Yellow belts, with several ambitious musicians progressing to the Red Belt level! As they move forward, the challenge increases – students must rely more on their memory and understanding of musical notation rather than letter guides.
The ultimate goal? The prestigious Black Belt, where students will perform "Ode to Joy." But the learning doesn't stop there! Once students complete their belt progression, they'll have the opportunity to choose their own musical pieces to learn, fostering a lifelong love of music.
We're incredibly proud of our 6th graders' dedication and musical growth. Keep up the fantastic work, musicians! 🎵

Exciting Math Progress at MMK! 📊✏️
It's wonderful to see our young mathematicians hard at work in Mrs. Jewett's 2nd-grade classroom! Our students are diving deep into developing their math fluency - the ability to solve basic math problems quickly and accurately. But they're not just practicing their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division skills; they're taking ownership of their learning journey.
What makes me particularly proud is watching our students set personal goals and track their own progress using graphs.
These young learners are not only building essential mathematical skills but also developing important habits of goal-setting and self-monitoring that will serve them well throughout their academic careers.
The enthusiasm I witnessed as students charted their improvements on their "How Am I Doing?" progress graphs was truly inspiring. When students can visualize their growth, it builds confidence and motivates them to keep pushing forward.
Great work, Mrs. Jewett and 2nd graders! You exemplify the spirit of continuous improvement we value so much at Mary M. Knight. Keep up the amazing work! 🌟

Exciting STEM Learning in Action at MMK! 🤖
Mr. Johannes's CTE robotics students are mastering real-world engineering skills through an innovative LEGO EV3 robotics project. Students Orion Sjolie, Dayton Triggs, and Dylan Hansen demonstrated exceptional problem-solving abilities as they programmed their robot to navigate complex mazes using block coding.
This project exemplifies our district's commitment to hands-on STEM education, preparing our students with critical skills in engineering, computer science, and collaborative problem-solving. We're proud to see our MMK students tackling these engaging technical challenges with such enthusiasm and dedication!

Exciting art and literacy connections happened in our library this week! Students explored themes of friendship and kindness through the story "Love Monster." After reading, they created artwork reflecting on sharing and building meaningful friendships. This engaging lesson helped reinforce our school's values of empathy and positive relationships.
